We really missed not having puppies last year, I forget how much fun they are! I also had to touch back up on all my doula skills keeping the vet on call during whelping, removing dew claws, worming, keeping mom fat, and changing their bedding almost daily.
In about two weeks the pups started opening their eyes. They still can’t see much and scoot around quite a bit. After they gain their legs I like to get them snacking on soaked kibble to help mom dog out. You can see the gains in mobility and activity daily it’s amazing how fast they grow!
Now at five weeks old they wrestle and play quite a bit in and outside of their house. The growling and barking has become more prominent and no more peeing inside the puppy house! Their sight and hearing is getting better each day they now come outside of their house when I whistle for them and are starting to follow me around. One more week we should be able to start taking little walks around the yard.
Mom dog spends the night in an adjacent kennel to give her some recovery and alone time and replenish her milk factory. It also teaches the pups to eat more kibble. At this point I keep the water supply and kibble dishes topped off 24/7 they can never eat enough which includes mom dog.
If you are in the area and would like to get your puppy fix give us a call we’d love to have you stop by the pups are always looking for big chew toys to sink their needle teeth in 😉
